No Action By F.O.L.
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 26. No further steps will b( taken by the Federation ol Labour in pressing for a pub lie inquiry into the action: of “certain people and the police” in Auckland durin; the visit of the United State: Vice-President (Mr Spire Agnew). The . president of th( federation (Mr T. E. Skinner) said this tonight after a con ference with the Prime Minis ter (Mr Hblyoake). He said the Prime Minis ter “has not changed hi: mind—he sees no reason foi a public inquiry.” Although the federation felt that such an inquirj would have been good foi the reputation of the police no further action would be taken. Gisborne Storm.—A sudden thunderstorm in Gisborne dust after 1.30 p in. yesterday drenched shoppers and flooded many shops. About half an inch of rain fell in the city in 15 minutes.— (P.A.).
