TRIAL A.A. CENTRE AT AIRPORT
The Automobile Associai tion (Canterbury), will establish an information centre at Christchurch Airport for a trial period of six months. This was announced at a meeting of the association’s council last evening by the president (Mr J. R. Maling). Mr Maling said that the centre Would provide a limited service to members and would enable the demand to be evaluated. The general manager (Mr E. S. Palliser) was authorised to complete the working details.
Technical Service.—On the recommendation of its services and publicity committee, the association authorised Mr Palliser to appoint an eighth technical officer to its road service and technical department. Mr Palliser said the demand for the service continued to be high and space in the existing headquarters garage was at a premium. It might be necessary for the new officer to spend some time on patrol duties until the new premises were available as it was unlikely that he could be accommodated in the existing premises.
Applications.—ln spite of overtime being worjced in the association’s technical department, about 20 applications for inspections had to be declined each week because of the heavy demand, according
i to the department’s report received at the meeting. No : adverse reactions from mem hers to the increase in the j charge for the standard check | from $4 to $5 was reported. Legal Service.—The associai tion’s contribution towards legal costs was increased from i $l5 to $25 on the recommendation of the services and publicity committee. Membership.— Membership of the association increased to 70,147 with the election of 1549 new members at the meeting.
