REQUEST TO HOLD PARTY
Permission Refused
A group of members of the Christchurch Progressive Youth Movement has been refused permission by the Mayor (Mr A. R. Guthrey) to hold a “young real people’s” garden party at Mona Vale. The group described the Mayor’s refusal as “an act of social discrimination.” Mr Guthrey said last evening that the groups invited to the youth gathering already planned for March 16, for Prince Charles and Princess Anne were those considered to have made a worth-while contribution to the city. “In our opinion, the Progressive Youth Movement has done nothing for the good of Christchurch,” he said. “I have told them that if, however, they come up with anything constructive, we will bej only too pleased to support them.”
