Causby (74) jgave South Australia its best istart for two years. on the ! opening day of the Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales yesterday. At stumps. South Australia I was 342 for five, with its capitain, L. Favell, playing in his I final first-class game, 33 not out. It was Woodcock’s first century in flrst-class cricket. His j previous best scores were 96 and 94 against Queensland. At 22. he is developing into one of the most stylish young openers ir Australia. His Innings included 15 fours. But it was New Zealand tourist, G. Chappell, who most i severely punished the tired New South Wales bowling when h« i hit 11 fours in his 68 runs. Three of the New South Wales bowlers who will tour New Zealand this month—K. O’Keefe. D Renneberg and G. Davies, all came in for some heavy punishment. with O’Keefe being the most successful in taking two wickets.
