Dr John Rock, clinical pro fessor emeritus at Harvard University, said in an inter view that there was no evi dence. or reason to believe that a properly-composed contraceptive pill would induce cancer. “When prescribed by a competent physician who keeps in contact with an informed and intelligent patient. the pill is utterly safe," Dr Rock said. “All our social problems can never be solved if we don't restrict our own population." he added. "The only way to do this is by acceptable, effective means of pre-; venting contraception ” 1 Dr Rock, a Roman Catholic, has long advocated birth control in opposition to the Vati-j can s stand on the issue. 1
