N.Z. Girl And Scot On Tennis Tour
Ranked second in Britain to Miss V Wade, Miss W. Shaw, a Scot who competed in the New Zealand open tennis tournament at Auckland recently, will play some matches in Christchurch next week with the top Canterbury woman. Miss R. Legge.
Misses Shaw and Legge, who have been playing exhibitions in the North Island with the American. Miss A. Tym. since the open finished, will arrive in Christchurch on Sunday and will probably be here for about a week before going to Otago. The chairman of the man-| agement committee of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association (Mr R. B Brown)
said last evening that girls’ secondary schools in the Christchurch area would be approached to see if they wished to have the players. Aged 22, Miss Shaw was British junior champion and has represented Britain in the Wightman Cup and the Federation Cup. Among her victims have been Miss Wade, and the Australians. Misses J. Tegart and K. Krantzcke.
She had some good wins on the Australian circuit before coming to New Zealand. In Auckland, she lost in the open to Miss Krantzcke after winning the first set. 60 Miss Legge, who has not been home to Christchurch for some weeks, has had a wonderful tournament circuit this season—a semi-final-ist in the Wellington and North Island championships and a finalist in the national. Auckland and North Shore, championships. Aged 19. she was selected last week-end for the young team of four to make a fivemonth tour to Britain and Europe beginning in March.
