‘Conditions Are j Essential’
! The conditions set out by. the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Transnort for commercial flights to the Antarctic from New Zealand were absolutely essential, the Minister of Tourism (Mr Walker) said yesterday. It should be feasible to ibuild a small hotel on the [Ross Ice Shelf. 14 miles from ■ McMurdo Station. He was confident that the monev which would have to he snent on the nrovision of specialised tourist facilities in the area jwnnld be fully justified, Mr Walker said.
“If it is physically possible I would like to see it established as a tourist area at an learly date,” said Mr Walker.
