More Talks Soon On Park Development

More talks on the development of facilities at Mount Cook will be held in Wellington this month between the park board and a Ministry of Works planning team.

The chairman of the board (Mr G. Mollett) said yesterday that the meeting would have before it the comments of various organisations connected with the park on a plan of development prepared by the Ministry of Works team and published last October.

Mr Mollett said he hoped that the park would be developed along the lines suggested in the plan as soon as ail concerned had agreed to the proposals. The board at. its meeting at Mount Cook last week-end had asked the chief ranger (Mr D. F. Bell) to bring down a report on the park’s ability to absorb the increase in the number of park visitors envisaged as a result of the development. The board had also decided to investigate the provision of proper rubbish-disposal facilities at the park by starting a collection service and relocat-

ing the tip about six miles from the Hermitage. The board was dissatisfied with present rubbish facilities and the siting of the tip about a mile from the Hermitage. The board would negotiate with the Mackenzie County Council on the matter.
