ENTRY TO E.E.C.

French Aid Suggested (N Z Press Assn —Copyright) | LONDON. February 10. The “Guardian” claims today in its main front-page story that France may be prepared during negotiations to limit the cost of Britain’s entry to the European Com mon Market. Anthony Harris, the newspaper’s economic editor, says this is because the French Government believes that Britain's cost of entry might be unacceptably high and it wants to help Britain in. However, Harris says that the French calculations are liable to be revised in the light of Britain's White Paper on the cost side. Harris continues: “The| hardening French line in favour of British entry since the succession of Mr Pompidou was reinforced yesterday in Washington. “Paris sources say the; French Ambassador in Washington has reported that the United States authorities are prepared to accept some trade; disadvantages from British membership.” He says that this is because America wants to speed European integration and thus make it easier to reduce her European troop commitments.
