ATILLA PROGENY IN DEMAND

(N.Z P A.-Reuter—Copyright) ADELAIDE. The English sire, Atiila, created an Australian and New Zealand record for a iirst-year sire when 15 of his yearlings sold on the first day of the South Australian yearling sales on Monday for a total of $129,800. The draft of 13 colts and two fillies averaged $8653. The colts submitted by Lindsay Park Stud, Angaston, where Atiila stands, realised $94,800, which gave the stud an average of $9480 for their syndicated sire. Not only did Atilla’s progeny top the sales, but they were the most sought youngsters by all buyers because of their magnificent appearance and blood lines. The three sessions on the first day saw 185 lots sold for $617,900, a record for the first day of any South Australian yearling sale. J. B. Cummings, Australia’s greatest buyer of New Zea-land-bred yearlings, bought only three of the 185 lots sold. The highest price he paid was $BOOO for a bay filly by Ragtime from Royal Ceremony. The filly is a first foal. The top price was $20,000, a record for a South Australian colt, paid by a Morphettville trainer, G. Heagney, for an attractive colt by Atiila from Belle Vixen.

N.Z. Auctioneer Heagney also Paid $17,000 for a chestnut colt by Atiila from the Globe of Light mare, Arctic Light, which was auctioned by the New Zealand auctioneer, Mr W. L. Paterson. The South Australian auctioneer, Mr B. Coles, gave Mr Paterson the honour of selling the Atiila—Arctic Light colt because he had been in charge of the New Zealand sale when Cummings paid a record price of $60,000 for the Agricola—-Chantal colt at the Trentham sales last month. The only Alcimedes colt to be offered at the sale was knocked down for $ll,OOO to an Adelaide trainer, J. Smith. The colt, a chestnut, is from Mid-day Song and is a half-brother to the New Zealand winner, Glasgee, and closely related to Programme, which won both the New Zea-' land and Great Northern I Derbys.

A Sydney trainer, V. Thomson, had to go to $15,000 to secure the half-brother to <he smart Sydney galloper, Cast Iron. The youngster is by Atiila from Raw Metal, a sister to Tobin Bronze.
