Waitangi Day
| Sir, —Why are we worried about one day extra holiday a year, when other people are (wondering what to do with their leisure time? There is (no need to cut out any provincial holiday for Waitangi Day; we could easily have this most important national day as well, and on its own. Re-enactments of the agreement and initial signing could be held in many centres and fireworks displays put on at night by local councils. This day is important educationally, and culturally and to show tourists our official beginning as a bi-racial society. Our provincial holidays are also good for tourism and ourselves, as long as eating houses and petrol stations are kept open, as well as the usual essential services.— Yours, etc., Patriot.
