MOST AUSTRALIAN SHARES EASIER
Mining and oil shares closed mixed on an uncertain note on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Established miners were quiet and tended to weaken. Oils were easier, except for Magellan, which rose 50 on the news of the big gas flow. Beach lost 40c. Industrials lost ground, and banks weakened. In spite of signs of a late recovery—especially among speculative issues—a wide range of shares finished the day at a lower level. The strongest, move come from nickel prospector Carr Boyd, which rose 110 to 770; Tasminex and Eastmet staged late recoveries. SYDNEY Sales. Amal.
