ADDINGTON MARKET Excellent Sale For Breeding Ewes

Adult breeding ewes had an excellent sale at the Addington market yesterday. Ewes with more than a season’s breeding life left sold regularly in the $6.50 to $7.50 range, while four-year-olds reached a peak for the season at $9.40.

Two-tooth ewes again had a good sale, although bidding on the top lots did not exceed SlO very often. Quality was excellent. with many pens of even-woolled Corriedales and halfbreds on offer.

Wether lambs had a buoyant sale, particularly in the first hour, but values eased a little on opening rates toward the end of the sale.

Ewe lambs had an easier sale. Although some good quality lines were included in the entry, competition was not as strong as last week. The yarding was 29,050 compared with 24,880 last week, and consisted of 7270 wether lambs, 2620 ewe lambs, 5830 two-tooth ewes, and 13,330 adult sheep. Store Lambs Store lambs met a particularly good sale. A large gallery followed the sale, especially in the earlier stages, and values for the better lots of wether lambs improved by 20c a head on last week. Corriedales and halfbreds made up the bulk of the entry. There were only a few Romneys and odd small lots of Down cross lambs. The sale was regarded as one of the best since the opening of the season, with regular sales of well-grown Corriedale and hill country halfbreds at S 5 or more. Toward the end of the sale, values eased on opening rates, as buyers filled their requirements. '
