Woodend Sewerage
Sir,—The Woodend sewerage scheme gives off an unpleasant scent when you delve into it. Recently tenders were again rejected, and the council now will do the job. Their magic figures of $71,103 and (about) $38,000 fit somehow. The people who are not in on the real estate deal should be told what it is going to cost them in the special-rated area to service and pay for capital expenditure of approximately SIIO,OPO. Will the amount of $36,000 Government subsidy which should be forthcoming be available? Has the scheme the approval of the Ministry of Works? This amount of money could be better spent on sewerage between the Waimakariri and Ashley Rivers at present. Let’s hope the Government Commission set up can give some direction which will stop the nonsense and waste of public money that goes on.—Yours, etc., COMMONSENSE RATEPAYER. January 27, 1970. [The Rangiora County Clerk (Mr A. A. H. McKenzie) had no comment to make on the letter.]
