The “Washington Post” reported today that President Nixon would propose a tight Budget of SUS2OO,BOOm for 1970-71; defence spending bearing the brunt of his spending cuts. A White House spokesman declined to comment on the report, but other officials said the figure was “close to the mark;”

The Budget will be submitted to Congress on Monday. The “Post” said that the Budget would provide for a surplus of SUSI3OOm, and it added that in his annual economic report, also due to go to Congress on Monday, Mr Nixon was expected to hint at some relaxation of the financial restrictions of the last year.
