MARIST COACH

A. Kennedy Appointed A former representative player and successful club coach from the West Coast, Mr A. B. Kennedy, has been appointed coach of the Mar-ist-Western Suburbs senior Rugby league team for the 1970 season. Only Marist-Western Suburbs and Papanui have elected new coaches during the off-season. Mr Kennedy will succeed last year’s playercoach, P. V. B. Smith, while Papanui recently announced that J. G. Clarke would captain and coach its premier team in place of another former international, Mr K. C. Pearce.

Mr Kennedy played for Christchurch Marist for most of the 1956 season before returning home to win West Coast selection. He played representative football until 1960 and was the South Island reserve back in 1958. As a coach, be guided Greymouth Marist to championship and Thacker Shield victories in 1960 and 1961. He was also a West Coast cricket representative.
