SIDE-CAR TESTS

A teun of three Australian motor-cycle ride-car crews wl|l compete in a test match against New Zealand at the Templeton Speedway on February 7. It will be the first test held between side-car teams of the two countries. A second will be rsced at the same venue on • February 14. Leading the;- Australian team • win be. the national and New 1 South Wales champion crew, G. • Young- (rider) and: R. Murray (passenger), who Will ride a 1000 c.c. Vincent. The other two 1 crews are D. Tyreman (rider) and B. Kelly (passenger) and : G. Grocott (rider) and W. Sullivan (passenger). Tyreman and Kelly are former ': New South Wales champions ' and will ride a super-charged Triumph twin in the tests. . Groeott am Sullivan will be . mounted ‘on an unusual . Japanese three-cylinder Kawa- . sakt machine.

The New Zealand team will consist of the South Islam} champions, W. Philp (rider) and D. Wylie (passenger), L. Dwight, sen., (rider) and G. Pullam (passenger) and I. Begbie (rider) and G. Freeman (passenger), all three crews from Templeton. The reserve crew will be L< Dwight,. the 22-year-old son of L. Dwight, sen., and G. Cox. Philp, the track record-holder, is possibly the most /experienced rider in New Zealand in side-car racing. He /is 52. Dwights sen., will be 50 in March. Both have 1000 c.c. Vincent machines. Befcbie, who comes from Ashburton, rides a twin-JAP. The first test will be decided on points over three heats of four laps each. It isyhoped lhat the test series between the two countries will become an annual event.
