Fire-Service Awards

Forty-two members of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Brigade received service awards at a special parade yesterday afternoon at the Headquarters station. The awards were presented by the chairman of the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board (Mr N. G. Pickering) on behalf of the United Fire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand. The awards were:— Gold Bars.—Messrs J. Jenkins (31 years), N. Phelan (33), R. Smith (27), and G. Thompson (33). Silver Bars.—Messrs S. Barnett (IS years), h. Corner (21), R. Cox (19), R. Craig (17), G. Crulckshank (9), C. Elkins (7), p. Fitzsimmons (17), g. Godman (7), A. Gray (7), P. Griffiths (11), A. Harkess (17), T. Jack (11), M. Johnston (11), D. Johnstone (11), J. Lyne (11), E. McGrath (13), R. Miles (23). G. Mitchell (9), D. O’Brien (13), D. Platt (11), N. Price (7), C. Rae (11), F. Rushton (13), I. Semple (13), B. Shields (7), A. Soderberg (13), A. Stevenson (11), R. Stevenson (19), D. Stickings (17), B. St Merat (11), R. Wells (7) and W. Williamson (15). Silver Medals (five years service).—Messrs J. Bell, D. Cordwell, C. Guthrie. C. James, W. Monk, and W. Fitchett. Three-year Certificate.—Mr I. Thomllnson. Diplomas and certificates of the New Zealand Fire Brigade Institute tor examination successes last year were presented as follows: Associate Member's Diploma. —Messrs J. Bell, I. Brooklands, C. Elkins, B. Joyce and J. McCraw. Full Member’s Diploma.—Mr A. Ellis. Graduate.—Messrs B. Joyce, D. R. Johnstone.
