SOME INVESTORS NERVY

Prices on the New Zealand sharemarket continued to rise yesterday, but for the first time this year there was a significant number of falls as investors took profits—and a longer look at the heights to which some prices had soared in last week’s enthusiastic market.

It was another sad day for last week’s eager mineral buyers. Consolidated Silver lost 30c more to close in Auckland at 420 c, 90c below its Thursday peak, but still 155 c above its price at Christmas. Waihi contributings followed it down, losing 8c to 62c, but Southern Cross Minerals recovered slightly to 135 c. L and M Oil (N.Z.) also suffered a sharp set-back, falling 14c to 226 c in Christchurch. Bounty Oil eased, but Offshore made 2c to 22c.

N.Z. Forest Products began to fall from its new peak when the ordinary shares lost 15c on Friday. It took a 10c fall yesterday, and the contributing shares sold 25c down at 300 c. Tasman climbed, however, rising 20c to 350 c. Fletcher, another of last week's solid leaders, eased 5c to 220 c, but Alex Harvey continued to make large strides with a spectacular 28c Increase to a new peak of 488 c.

The Wattie issues were among other leaders, and an even balance was held mainly by firm insurances. Overall, rises outnumbered falls three to two, and a few sharp movements stood out in a generally steady market. Turnovers were again heavy. Strong second-line stocks were Motor Holdings, up 12c to 99c, Steel and Tube, up 15c to 235 c, Winstone, up 10c to 145 c, Tolley and Reid Rubber, each up Bc, and McSkimming and N.Z.T.S. each up 6c. Brierley made a spec-

tacular 65c to hit 391 c in Wellington. Sales in New Zealand yesterday were:
