BEST NICKEL FIND AT SCOTIA MINE
(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Jan. 12. The Great Boulder-North Kaigoodie partnership has reported the highest nickel values yet obtained at their jointly-owned Scotia mine in Western Australia. The directors said yesterday that development work on the 490 ft level of mine has produced values of up to 6.1 per cent nickel. In the eagerly awaited quarterly report no further up-grading of ore reserves is given for either Scotia or the Carr-Boyd Rocks mines. The partnership, however, has made a geological reappraisal of its area at Cowarna Rocks. Ultrabasic rocks were found to extend beyond the area held. An additional 30 mineral claims have now been pegged to cover this extension, which includes a large magnetic anomaly. Meanwhile at Scotia, driving on the footwall of the ore body on the 490 ft level
has been extended 61ft in ore averaging 6.1 per cent nickel and 0.38 per cent
copper over a width of Bft.
At Carr-Boyd Rocks the partnership completed 24,322 ft of diamond drilling. Nickel assays ranged from 1.03 per cent to 1.79 per cent and copper assays from 0.59 per cent to 0.93 per cent. The directors said diamond drilling outside the main zone had been limited. Geo-chem sample holes were providing targets for deeper testing. At Mount Martin, further driving brought the aggregate length of ore developed so far to 177 ft, with 2.05 per cent nickel and 2.30 per cent arsenic over an average width of 6.4 ft.
