Maori Tennis Finals
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. B. Smith 'Auckland) won the men’s single* final at the New Zealand Maori lawn tennis championships at Hamilton on Saturday. He beat R. Peni (Taumarunui). 5-1. 5-1. The former New Zealand women’s tennis champion. Mrs R. Morrison-Davy (Rotorua), playing in her first tournament since last February, drew on her experience to defeat Mrs M. Hiha, 6-2, 6-2, in the women’s singles final. Mrs Morrison-Davy and Miss M. Peni (Taumarunui) won the women’s doubles. 6-3. 6-2. from Miss M. Davies (Mount Maunganui) and Mrs E. Koopu (Bay of Plenty). Othar Final* Under 15 Girls’ Singles.—Y. Siggelko < Mount Maunganui) beat C. Philson (Auckland). 8-6, 6-4. Under 17 Boys’ Singles. R. Walford (Gisborne) beat V. Wehipeihana (Lower Hutt), 7-5. 6-3. Under 17 Girls’ Singles. S. Koopu (Taumarunui) beat W. Heremia (Ruatoki). 6-1, 6-3. Under 19 Boys’ Singles. P. Smith (Auckland) beat B. Morunga (Wairoa/, 6-2, 6-3. Under 19 Girls’ Singles.—M. Pent (Taumarunui) beat N. McKenzie (Gisborne). 7-5. 9-7. Under 13 Boys’ Singles. P. Tureia (Gisborne) beat S. Kingston (Rfotorua). 7-5. 6-4. Under 13 Girls’ Singles.— Awhina Ngatai (Tauranga) beat J. Sherwood (Giaborne), 6-2, 6-4. Under 15 Boys’ Single*. L. Cooney (Auckland) beat D. Epae (Auckland). 6-0, 6-1.
