Approaches To Couples

Detectives are seeking a man who has disturbed couples in cars, claiming to be a detective. Late last week a couple in a car parked in Hagley Park were approached ■ by a man, and a man of the same description approached a couple in a car parked at North Beach.

Each time the couple have been shown a card, with the suggestion that it is a police: identification card and thej girl has been asked to go with the man. An indecent act has then been attempted, according to the police. Detective Superintendent F. A. Gordon said yesterday that couples approached in such circumstances should inspect closely the credentials offered and even then should remain together. A woman invited to go to a police car could recognise it by the traffic on the twoway radio even though the car carried no police markings.
