STRANDED SHAGS
Young spotted shags are coming ashore on the Sumner beach and rocks and some of them, are being molested and killed by < dogs. . Mr B. N.Nbrris, an honorary. Wildlife Officer at Sumner, has had several birds taken to him by persons who thought they were sick. is nothjng wrong ifeis said, Scarborough andiheyifenpt yet strong swimmers or fliers. Also, they know no fear.” There was a strong inshore wind at present and it was not unusual for young birds to' come ■ ashoreatthistime of the year. Mr Norris said that if dog owners were a w#re of the prescence of the birds they could control their 'dogs and help to preserve the shags. -
