Burnt Mail

Sir,—On October 22 I posted all my Christmas mail to the United Kingdom. When I read of the fire on the train, I thought time and money had been wasted- This week, I

have received air letters from my people in London containing the good hews that they had received the mail sent by me, but of course, in a charred condition. But what pleased me very much was that an official letter from Post Office headquarters in Wellington, sent air mail and dated November 7, was also included, saying how sorry they were that the letter could not be delivered in good condition, and the reason for this was given. I think this was a courteous and splendid thing for the Post Office to do, and I give them my thanks.—Yours, etc., MRS SOPHIE M. JEWELL. December 5, 1969.
