SHEARING RECORD
566 Lambs In Day (N.Z. Press Association) MASTERTON, Dec. 5. Shearing .more than a lamb a minute, a Walrarapa man, Mr L. A. Chamberlain, set a world record of 566 lambs at Masterton today. - Mr ' Chamberlain, shearing Perendales, beat the record of 550 lambs in a normal working day set by Mr B Quinn in the South Island last year. A panel of three judges, appointed by the Sheep Shearing Records Committee, awarded him 41.2 quality pointe out of a possible 50. The panel’s comments were: “A good average standard maintained throughout the day. The sheep were handled well and the pace ,was very even.”
Pacing him throughout the day was his brother, Mr N. Chamberlain, who shore 515 lambs and also won the judges’ commendation for his clean shearing. Tomorrow there will be an attempt on the new record by another Walrarapa shearer, Mr G. Clegg.
