OVERSEAS TRADING
SYDNEY A burst of active buying support for oils and mining stocks engaged in the nickel search proved shortlived on the Sydney Stock Exchange yesterday. The market opened strongly, with good rises over a wide front in the wake of 500 c gain to 6000 by glamourous nickel stock Poseidon. The advance slowed after about an hour’s trading and many Issues had lost some or all of their gains by the close.

MELBOURNE Poseidon spurted to 7000 in early trading on the Melbourne Stock Exchange yesterday, and closed at 6800 to show a rise on the day of 300. Other issues were also strong, although a cautious undertone kept movements within a narrow range and held back the levels of more speculative Issues. Gold and Mineral Exploration resumed its upward course with a rise, of 60 to 1450, and Gippsland added 25 to close at 230. Norseman closed 50 higher at 1350, and Scamander, Tasminex, Allstate, Bridge, and Murchison all firmed. Sales.—Ampol, 120; Ansett, 95; A.R.C., 133; Aust. Fert., 100; Assoc. Pulp, 183; A.C.1., 218; A.
