Prospecting Moves At Coromandel

(New Zealand Press. Association) HAMILTON, October 15. ' The Kaiser Mining and Development Company, Ltd, of the United States, has applied for prospecting warrants covering 30,000 acres in the Coromandel Peninsula.

The Hamilton Warden’s Court last week approved applications to prospect 4000 acres in the Coromandel

Harbour, and 3000 acres in the Whangapoua Harbour. These applications, which named copper, zinc and lead among other minerals, are now awaiting consent by the Minister of Mines (Mr Shand). Two other Kaiser prospecting warrant applications awaiting Ministerial consent cover 18,230 acres in two blocks. One block adjoins the north-eastern section of the Whangapoua Harbour, and joins the other, which runs between Whitianga and Coromandel.

On September 25 the company lodged two further applications for prospecting warrants on seabed areas, including 3400 more acres in the Coromandel Harbour adjacent to the block earlier approved, and 1950 acres adjacent to the other block in Whangapoua Harbour. One of the conditions placed on the two earlier seabed applications was that the prospecting must not interfere with present or proposed oyster beds or with moorings in the harbours. On September 30 the Consolidated Silver Mining Company of New Zealand filed an application for a prosoecting warrant covering 1933 acres of mudflats opposite Thames township. A week later Single Pty. Ltd, of Western Australia, applied for 30.000 acres of mudflats and seabed opposite Thames, including an area already contained in the Consolidated Silver application.
