Rubbish is still piling up in more than half of London’s 32 boroughs as dustmen continue their defiance of “back-to-work” appeals by their union to end their strike, now three weeks old. The dustmen are maintaining their stand in support of demands for a £4 12s-a-week rise to bring their minimum pay to £2O. Militant shop stewards from 20 of London’s strikehit boroughs have called for a protest march today from Tower Hill to Lincoln’s Inn Fields. The dustmen are also expected to lobby M.P.S

More mass meetings are being held in a number of boroughs to decide whether strikers should respond to the union call, and return to work.

Men in several boroughs have already decided to resume work and yesterday the mammoth task of clearing the rubbish that has accumulated over 21 days was under way at five more boroughs.
