Students Rebuked
After reluctantly accepting the mini-skirt, Egypt is fighting a strong rearguard action against trouser-suits. Girl students trying to introduce them to the Cairo University campus at the start of the new term were banned from lectures, officials telling them to return more suitably attired. The belated arrival of the mini-skirt in Egypt last year caused street riots and religious protests until President Nasser himself reprimanded the traditionalists in a public speech.—Cairo, October 15.
