As well as being one of the finest batsman New Zealand has produced, his record in, more recent years entitles him to a.comparable ranking as an administrator of the game. Mr Kerr has filled countless offices for the West Christchurch - University club, of which he is the current president, the Canterbury Cricket Association of which he is a life member, and the New Zealand Cricket Council. He was first elected to the council’s management committee in 1937 and was chairman for 11 years from 1954. In recent years he has served as treasurer.

As a player, Mr Kerr was a commanding figure at the wicket and his total of nearly 5000 runs in firstclass cricket gives some insight into his prowess with the bat.
