The 1971 New Zealand Derby Stakea has attracted an entry of 145, This la slightly less than expected bet compares reasonably favourably with the 176 horses originally entered for the 1970 Derby. There are still 120 horses remaining in the 1070 Derby. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will contribute MOOT as Its minimum share -ot the stakes for the 1970 and 1971 contests. The total stakes are expected to exceed >lO,OOO. with all payments made bv owners being added to the elub’s contribution.
