Oil Man Buys Share In Piko
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Texas oil millionaire, Mr Nelson Bunker Hunt, is the new half-owner of the star three-year-old, Piko. When Piko, unbeaten in His last six starts, tackles the $OOOO Wellington Guineas (Im) at Trentham on Saturday, he will race in the joint interests of Mr Hunt and Matangl owner, trainer, Mr I. Robinson, who bought the colt as a yearling. Mr Hunt’s share in Piko was negotiated by the Melbourne blockstock agent, Mr J. Shannon, through Mr B. Lee, of Cambridge, representing the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company. It had been Mr Hunt’s intention to buy Piko outright, but hla desire to. have Mr Robinson continue with the colt’s training ruled this out. Mr Robinson is not a licensed trainer and Is prevented by the rules of racing from training horses in which he does not hold a share. His half-share cost $25,000.
