Money For Wells
The sum of $661 was given by the Knox Presbyterian Youth Fellowship towards a C.0.R.5.0. project concentrating on supplying drinking water supplies to the many Indian villages that do not have them. There were 200,000 villages in India without supplies of drinking water and the project aimed at digging wells for them to mark the centenary of the birth of Mahaitma Gandi, said the area organiser for C.0.R.5.0. (Mr R. H. French) The average cost of the wells was $770 and many groups were raising money for the project. Several thousand dollars had been raised by the Youth Against Hunger group in Timaru and more was still coming in.
