Car Insurance
Sir,—l am disgusted with the insurance companies because they have no consideration for drivers under 25. If some inconsiderate driver damages my car while it is parked the insurance company couldn’t care less and I would have to pay for this myself. This is the service the insurance companies give to a portion of the innocent, unsuspecting public.—Yours, etC ” S. K. BROWN. Rakaia, October 3, 1969. [Mr H. W. Simpson, chairman of the Insurance Association of Christchurch, replies: “The standard private-type motor-vehicle policy issued by member companies of the insurance Council of New Zealand contains the following provision: The company shall not be liable to pay for the first $5O in respect of each and every claim under section 1 resulting from a happening which occurs at a time when the vehicle insured is being driven by any person who is at the time of such happening under the age of 25 years.’ This excess is not normally applied in the circumstances outlined in your correspondent’s letter.”]
