McRae Clear Winner In National Formula Race

G. Mcßae (Wellington), in a Brabham BTIBB 1600 ex. car, seized on die one mistake made by the leading Auckland driver, K. Smith, to win the second National Formula championship race of the 1969-70 season, at Teretonga Park yesterday.

Mcßae was the National Formula champion last season and has recently returned from a season in Europe. He drove an impeccable race, staying elose behind Smith for the first two laps and slipping past Nm halfway through tiie third. Immediately afterwards, Smith spun, losing 10 seconds and letting Mcßae take a comfortable lead. Although he was a second a lap faster in practice, Smith was unable to make up much of the gap during the next 17

laps, and Mcßae was not again headed. Mcßae also set * new tap record tor New Zealand racing fare up to 3M6 c.c., clipping 14.se off the time of imln l.toec set by G. Baker. behhMMtcVae. rod Otemetata, who amply proved Ms worth in a Brabham B.T. with an engine capacity of only c.c.
