KATEA ‘SITIN’

Minister’s Proposals The seamen’s “sit-in” strike aboard the Katea in Lyttelton harbour is not yet over, but the Seamen’s Union has accepted proposals for a settlement put forward by the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott). The secretary of the Lyttelton branch of the union (Mr D. A, Morgan) said last evening , that the seamen were still sitting-in but would resume normal duties when the other parties to the dispute accepted Mr Seott’s proposals. 1 The other parties are the owner (the Union Steam 1 Ship Company) and the Merchant Service Officers* Guild ' (representing the captain of I the Katea). ■ Mr Scott has proposed that the dismissals and bad dis- ! charges of the 13 men ini volved be revoked, and the whole matter be taken to arbii tration. Mr Morgan said last even- ' ing that the men were happy with this, but the union had not heard from the company : or the guild.
