Disqualified On Dope Charge

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ATHENS. The Dutch competitor, E. de Noorlander, who was originally placed sixth in the decathlon at the European athletics championships, was disqualified on Saturday under the International Amateur Athletic Federation’s doping rules. Dutch officials said they were mystified by the decision of the I.A.A.F. jury of appeal. They had not been given the exact medical reason for de Noorlander’s disqualification, but had simply been told that he had contravened the I.A.A.F. doping rules. The officials also said that de Noorlander himself had no

idea why. he had been disqualified, and the team was angry at ’what it considered the harsh announcement of the disqualification over the stadium loudspeakers.

Later, an .official of the championships organising committee said traces of the drug amphetamine had been found in de Noorlander’s blood. Two world records were broken on Saturday, the Russian, A. Bondarchuk, throwing the hammer 244 ft lOjin, and the Czech, Jaroslava Jehlickova, winning the women’s 1500 metres in 4min 10.7 sec. Results were:— Men 200 Metres.—P. Olerc (Switzerland), 20.6, 1; H.
