Fast Times In Skating
World-class times were recorded by both men and women in roller-skating events in Christchurch on Saturday afternoon. W. Begg (Timaru) won the annual 50-mile Rollerdrome race' for men in 2h r 44min Msec, 3min outside the world record, and Miss R. Alexander won the women's 25-mile race in ihr 18min 58.5 sec. One of the highlights of the men’s race was the performance of P. Maxwell, of the Rollerdrome club, who was third. Maxwell is only 13 years. R. Gabites (Timaru), who was fourth, is 14. Results were: Rollerdrome 50 MEes—W.' Begg (Timaru) 1. A. Morris (RoClerdrome) 2, P. Maxwell’ (Rollerdrome) 3. R. Gabites(Timaru) 4. J. Chesman (Rollerdrome) 5. Time: 2:46:51.
