QUALITY OF N.Z. SHOES PRAISED

Consumer complaints about New Zealand footwear are far fewer than those received by British footwear fnanufactufers, according to th# president of the New Zealand "Footwear Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr P. Carter).

Mr Carter was addressing : the annual conference of the ; federation which opened at the Hermitage last evening, i Speaking to more than 70 delegates, Mr Carter said ; many people did not realise : that the quality of New Zea-land-made footwear had been more than favourably commented on by overseas experts. “The proportion of con- ;

sumer complaints here is only a fraction of that in the United Kingdom,” said Mr Carter. Me said there were many areas in which the New Zealand Footwear Industry could improve its relations and service to retailers and the public. “The 1970 S are going to call for new approaches in marketing—new techniques which, to benefit us as manufacturers, must of necessity benefit the users of our products to be worth while,” he said. Mr Carter added that manufacturers should work closely with retailers in this development which would include retail staff education and trade training within the industry. “Together, retailers and manufacturers must have the aim of presenting to the public products in which we all should take pride,” said Mr Carter.
