Press Association) | INVERCARGILL, Sept 21. 1 One of the last stalwarts of, the Labour Government that swept into power in 1935, Mr William Mortimer Clarence Denham, died suddenly at his home in Invercargill early this morning, aged 82. Mr Denham represented Invercargill under the Savage Government, and later under Mr Peter Fraser, from 1935; until 1946 when he was un-'
seated by the late Mr J. Rr Hanan. In Parliament he was an indefatigable worker for his electorate. State housing was one of his special interests, and he was largely responsible for much of the scheme’s rapid progress. Mr Denham was a strong supporter of Mr John A. Lee, and was on his side through all the controversy that resulted in Mr Lee’s expulsion from the Labour Party.
