Sir,—l consider that Mr Campbell, of the Ministry of Transport, has evaded the point of J. A. Slater’s letter. It Is all very well to quote recent reports, but as to “postponing the situation” regard-

ing road accidents if the driving age were raised to 18. 1 would suggest that for every “highly responsible 15-year-old” there is at least one. perhaps two, even moderately irresponsible 15-year-olds who, besides receiving employment opportunities, are handed the opportunities of causing irreparable suffering. It Is a sociologically acceptable fact that between 15 and 18 the individual's sense of responsibility increases appreciably. In this matter of raising the driving age, where lives (too often extremely young Ilves) are the measure of success, anything which has a logical chance of lowering the acci-dent-fatality rate should be implemented, if only experimentally.
