Krishchlsin, as'd 23, a Ukrainian, held the previous record of 2481 b.
V. Smetanin (Russia), won the gold medal in the fly-weight snatch event. Smetanin's performance equalled the world record of 22511 b but it was not recognised because a check weigh-in afterwards showed the Russian was about 21b over the fly-weight limit, although before he made the lift he had weighed in correctly. Smetanin won the fly-weight gold medal in the jerk event with a lift of 2Milb. Krishchlsin won the flyweight gold medal for the three lifts combined, with a total of 74911 b. South Africa Suspended
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WARSAW. The World Weight-lifting Federation has suspended South Africa's membership because of its racial discrimination policies in sport. Mr C. Johnson, the American president of the federation, told a news conference that the congress, meeting In Warsaw, decided on the suspension by 27 votes to eight, with two abstentions.
Mr Johnston said the conference felt that the South African Weight-lifting Federation was unable to integrate Its sport racially because of Government policies.
