Secret U.S. War Plans In Mail

(N.Z.P .A.-Reuter—Copyright) HAMBURG (Germany), August 26. The West German magazine, “Stern,” said yesterday that it has received through the mail top-secret American plans on nuclear, chemical and biological warfare in Central and Eastern Europe, the Associated Press reported.

The magazine said the photostatic copy of the fourpage plan, titled “Market 10-1,” and a 29-page supplement from the United States Army European headquarters in Heidelberg, West Germany, also were sent anonymously;

to newspapers in Italy, France and Britain. An accompanying letter by the anonymous sender said the material came from the late Major-General Horst Wendtand, former deputy chief of the West German Intelligence Service who shot and killed himself in his Munich office on October 8, 1968, “Stern” said. The sender claimed to be a friend of General Wendland and said that it was General Woodland's wish that the material on nuclear, chemical and biological warfare be published at an appropriate time after his suicide.

“Stern” did not disclose the contents of “Market 10-1,” but it said General Wendland could not possibly have known about it because he had nothing to do with United States military information,

The magazine said that an American military spokesman confirmed that the documents were genuine and that about 20 persons had received the plan.
