Bottled Note Mystery
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CHERBOURG, August 26. Maritime authorities in Cherbourg have reported receiving. a bottle message purported to have been sent by the missing British yachtsman, Donald Crowhurst, whose empty trimaran was found in the Atlantic, near the Azores, last month. A holidaymaker found the message in a bottle on a beach last night and took it to maritime officials. Pencilled in block letters on a piece of cardboard, it read: “Stuck on island in Egan Sea. Help.—Donald Crowhurst.” No Egan Sea is listed In geographical reference books, and the authorities do not exclude the possibility of a practical joke; but, they say, efforts will be made to try to determine the origin of the cardboard.
