Labour Broadcastfog Policy Outlined

WELLINGTON, August 20.
Under a Labour government, sport, culture, art and education programmes would be carried on a national, non-commercial radio and television network, Mr A; J. Faulkner (Lab., Roskill) told Parliament. today.
Mr Faulkner, who is chairman of the Labour Party’s news media committee, reiterated Labour broadcasting policy during debate on previous questions and replies. He said Labour would establish three regional, competing, commercial, radio and television corporations.
In addition, a second nonadvertising television channel would be established alongside the present nonadvertising radio network. “It is on these We will broadcast sport, art, culture and educational programmes
which cater to a substantial minority of the public,” he said.
It was probable that a substantial majority. Would be tuned to the non-commercial networks at, such times as Saturday afternoons. This policy would allow the commercial networks to concentrate on programmes of interest to the majority Of the public, Mr Faulkner said.
