Move To Change Control Of Hanmer Springs Pools

The possibility of Hanmer. Springs being created a county town to enable a county town committee to control the thermal pools there will be discussed by the Amuri County Council and representative of the Hanmer Springs Businessmen’s Association soon. The council agreed yesterday to a request from the businessmen’s association for informal discussions. The association proposes to make submissions on the pools and the possibility of the formation of a county town.

Since a deputation from the association met the council in October,’ 1968, letters had been written to a local member of Parliament (Mr T. P. Shand) and the Minister of Health (Mr McKay) for action on the pools, said the association.

“We feel that virtually no ; progress has been made, and believe it is most important that discussions and action should take place as soon as possible. “The pools at Hanmer Springs are of vital concern to all who are in business in the town and they are also vital to the county. “In view of the attitude of the Department of Health,

A. Vowles. “But the only way they can see they can be a responsible body, able to take control of

the pools, is by being a county town committee,” he said.
