NEW LINE DEPOT:

Approval; Of Tenders

(From Our Own Reporters WELLINGTON. July J. Tenders were to be called for the construction of the new line depot building in Wilmer Street, the PostmasterGeneral (Mr Scott) said today. He said that he was pleased to see this project under way. “When the building is finished and tbe existing Christchurch line depot in Hereford Street transferred to the new site, it will be possible to clear the Hereford Street site in preparation for ttn proposed postal centre,” be said. “Thus this is a further Important step in the Post Office building programme planned for Christchurch, leading ultimately to the replacement of the Chief Post Office.”

The new line depot building, which was designed by Post Office architects, will be erected on the recently acquired property at the corner of Durham and Wilmer Streets. The building will be of standard design, with a portal frame, and concrete block structure. It will be 15,000 sq. ft. It is planned to have the biiHding completed towards the end *bf next year.
