Japanese Invited
A Japanese soccer team may tour New Zealand next season.
The New Zealand Football Association has been advised that Japan is awaiting the outcome of its World Cup commitments before making a decision. The invitation was issued by the N.Z.FA. this year. Japan, however, could qualify for the final stages of the World Cup competition in Mexico City next year. It is grouped with Australia, South Korea and Rhodesia in one sub-group of the Asian zone. Should it win the'section, Japan would then meet the winner of the other sub-group (which comprises Israel and New Zealand) for the right to advance into the final playoffs in Mexico.
