Bridge Over Bosphorus

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) TOKYO, July 4.

Ten leading Japanese firms will compete for a contract to build a bridge over the Bosphorus, the first physical link between Europe and Asia.

The proposed link across Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait at the entrance to the Black Sea will be the world’s eighth longest suspension bridge. Turkey estimates that the whole project—the 4875ftlong bridge and its access routes will cost the equivalent of about SNZI6Om.

Many other firms, mainly from Britain, West Germany, France, Italy and Denmark, and perhaps some American companies are also likely to tender.
