TRANSPLANT DONORS

Doctors Given Warning

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, July 4.

A report has warned British doctors that it is completely unethical to rush a dying patient from one hospital to another to use his heart or any other organ for a transplant operation. The report is to be presented to the British Medical Association conference in I Aberdeen today. The “Daily Sketch” said this week that the report was a result of discussions between leaders of the medical profession and Government officials which lasted several months. It says doctors who do attempt to move such patients will, in future, face expulsion from the B.M.A.

Their warning sought to reassure the public that “procedures involved in tissue transplantation are not embarked upon lightly by doctors and that the utmost care is taken to protect the interests of all parties concerned,” the “Daily Sketch” said.
